Motivation to a Sweet Life for a Sweet Tooth Runner

Decorating for Christmas can get expensive, especially when you only use those decorations for a few months. Check out these decoration ideas that won’t break the bank.

I use this lantern all year round and for Christmas I fill it with ornaments and tie a Christmas ribbon around the handle. Place it on your kitchen table, fire place mantle or in a corner.

Print out Christmas sayings and frame them with a frame you already have. No need to buy a special frame just for Christmas.

Pick your favorite holiday saying and spell it out with paper mache letters. You can find these letters at JoAnne Fabrics. Pick out your favorite color and spray paint them for an extra special touch! I attached them to the wall with Scotch Adhesive Putty.

After you trim your Christmas tree, save some of the branches and find a vase or pale (one that you already own). Fill the vase with some pine cones, tree branches, beads, lights and whatever other random Christmas things you have laying around.

Christmas ornaments can be some of the most expensive decorations. Bake a few extra cookies and hang them in your tree, on your windows or fireplace. Store them in a shoebox with tissue paper. They will last for years!

Dollar Store picture frames + christmas paper (or wrapping paper)= great decoration for the wall, center piece or fireplace mantel.

Cluster together a few small decorations on a cocktail table. Recycle a glass jar, hot glue twine around the jar. On a piece of wax paper make your own snowman out of glue and then glue it onto the vase.

Fill a bowl with inexpensive ornaments.

Happy decorating to all and to all a good night!

Adam and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary on Monday, July 16th. Well…we attempted to celebrate. I came down with a nasty stomach bug that had me sleeping by 7pm.

Even though I felt lousy and looked horrible, Adam still prepared a beautiful and romantic dinner. We love cooking together and since our past vacations have forced us to eat out a lot we decided to have a nice night in.

I came home from work to these beauties. I love bright colors. They make me so happy.

At our wedding reception we had the most amazing salmon for dinner so Adam attempted to recreate it. He did a spectacular job by grilling it to perfection! ( I ate all the leftovers the next day)

I also thought it would be fun to attempt to recreate our wedding table. We had a few of these ivory Ikea lanterns at the tables with candles. I also busted out our wedding toasting flutes and of course the top to our wedding cake! (frozen for 1yr)

I also took out our wedding cake cutter. It was my parents from 31 years ago. Their names and wedding date are engraved on the back side.

Yes! We had a chocolate wedding cake. It was gigantic with four tiers and six different flavors. I LOVED it! Amaretto, Cheery Chip, White Fudge, White Chocolate Chip are the only flavors I can remember. I have them written down somewhere but knowing me they were some type of chocolate flavor. All made from scratch which is why the cake is so darn good!

It has been a great year for Adam and I. We are very lucky and blessed to have each other, our families, friends, jobs and finances. Adam is everything I’m not. He is great with numbers and money, patient when it comes to redecorating and a great teacher. (I am a much better runner though :) )

Thank you Adam for loving me unconditionally, showing me the real beauty in life and for making everyday in my life worthwhile. Cheers to us and many more years to come. xoxoxox

June Birchbox

June 13th, 2012 | Posted by Amy in Birchbox | style - (0 Comments)

This week my June Birchbox came in the mail!

This month’s box came loaded with some unique goodies.

Ada Cosmetics Bronzer

Likewise Facial Moisturizer

Masqueology Brightening Mask

theBalm cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen

Cynthia Rowley Dress Up Band-Aids

I have never used a facial mask so that will be something fun to experiment with.

I LOVE the lip stain. It colors your lips without making them feel sticky. It is a really pretty pink rose color. I didn’t even know there was a such thing as “lip stain.” And that is why I subscribed to Birchbox :)

Happy Wednesday!

Today was the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon. At 8:00AM, one hour after the race started, temperatures reached 80 degrees. At 9:25AM officials closed the race course and runners were being picked up at water stations to be shuttled back to the finish line.

I ran the half marathon and was able to finish before they closed the course. I knew it was going to be very hot when I felt the sweat drip down by face at mile one. At that point I told myself I was going to make sure to stop at every water station and run through ever sprinkler to stay cool. Even if it meant slowing my pace. I wanted to run for fun and I wanted to be smart. Even though the race was really hot and the sun was beaming straight down on the black top, I had a fun time. My mom, husband and a few cousins were on the course cheering me on. Thanks guys for all your support!

That’s me in the pink tank and gray shorts, rounding the corner to the finish line.

I typically don’t stop for many water breaks on the course because they are always crowded and slow me down. But today I didn’t care. I even stopped at the water station about a half mile before the finish line. I’m sure glad I did! After the race I felt great! My legs were a little tired but I didn’t feel sick or dehydrated.

I finished the race in 1 hour and 52 minutes. Not my best, not my worst.

The metals were pretty cool this year. They were a silver football shape.

I also want to mention that I had the perfect race outfit on for the intense heat. My tank was awesome! It was thin and repelled all the water and sweat. I noticed that a lot of other runners wore spandex/nylon type tops that were saturated and looked like they were very heavy and uncomfortable. My shorts repelled the water too and didn’t stick to my legs. They also had a side pocket that was handy for storing my gel pack for mile 9.

Race Day Outfit

  1. Sports Bra- Neon Yellow Soft Champion Brand from Target
  2. Tank- Lululemon Cool Racerback *Mesh
  3. Shorts- Lululemon Run: Tracker Short II
  4. Socks- Champion High Back Socks. They never slipped down. I hate it when they do that!
  5. Shoes- Asic Gel Nimbus

For all the half and full marathon runners who didn’t finish or had a disappointing time- Don’t get too down on yourself. You trained hard, you tired your best, you showed up! The weather was completely out of your control. This race will only make you stronger for the next one.

Stay cool!

May Birchbox Arrived

May 15th, 2012 | Posted by Amy in Birchbox | style - (0 Comments)

My second Birchbox came in the mail!

The theme of this month’s Birchbox is Gossip Girl. I have to admit the only thing I know about Gossip Girl is that it’s some TV show…that’s it.

These are some of the exciting things that came in the box:

  1. Color Club Gold Nail Polish-Disco Nap, a metallic gold polish
  2. Dr. Jart Waterfuse Cream
  3. Kerastase Perfume
  4. Stila Liquid Eye Liner
  5. Kerastase Shampoo and Conditioner
  6. A Note Card

My two favorites are the nail polish and note card. I am a nail polish freak and almost always have my fingers and toes painted. As far at the note card goes, I love sending random cards and notes to my family & friends. Those simple, little things you do for people always mean the most (never forget about them).

I have to admit, I am not really a makeup kind of girl. Of course I wear makeup but I am not that girl who gets crazy excited about walking down the cosmetic isle. I am not sure if a Birchbox subscription is totally for me but it’s only my second box. It is definitely a fun surprise I get to have every month! And is it something special I get to have to myself.

Welcome Back Jelly Shoes

April 17th, 2012 | Posted by Amy in style - (0 Comments)

Check out these sparkling beauties!

Last weekend I stopped in at the Mall of America to pick up a few quick things and through the window I spotted these gems!

I love jelly shoes! I am so excited they are back from the 80s and in style.

They will be perfect with a pair of skinny jeans, a summer skirt or a business dress.

The sales associate told me they were flying off the shelf and that everyone was complimenting about how comfortable they were.

I didn’t believe it…how could such structured looking rubbery/plastic shoes be comfortable? So, I tried them on and fell in love.

These beige, peeped toe, jelly shoes are so extremely comfortable.

I got them from a new store I found called “Call It Spring.” If you have heard of Aldo shoes, Call It Spring is their sister company.

You can see these super cute jelly shoes here- FODOR FLATS

Typically I am always wearing heels to business meetings, formal events and wedding. But at 5’9″ and with heels I am almost always the tallest. Sometimes it feels nice to be shorter without sacrificing the style on your feet.

For only $25.00 I know I will get my money out of these shoes.

The sequenced bow adds such a cute touch!

Did anyone else find any cute new spring styles?

Two Monday Surprises

April 16th, 2012 | Posted by Amy in Motivation | style - (1 Comments)

I was pleasantly surprised to see two packages on my kitchen counter when I arrived home from work this evening.

My very first Birchbox came in the mail today along with another running surprise! My new Pro Compression socks!!!

I stumbled upon these two fun treats from two amazing bloggers:

My Birchbox subscription came from Kate with The Small Things Blog

My Pro Compression Sock purchase came from Skinny Runner

Both of these girls have great blogs that are very different and very inspirational!

First, lets talk about my Birchbox package!

I subscribed to a 12 month Birchbox subscription. Every month I will receive a package of sample beauty and health products. For just $110 a year I will get 12 packages delivered straight to my house with high end products to try. For only about $9.17/month I thought it would be a fun little surprise to look forward to each month.

Lets see what April’s Birchbox bought.

1. Befin Skincare Sampler

2. NAIL POLISH! Color Club Nail Lacquer

3. Perfume-Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy

4. June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Enzyme Polis

5. ShowStoppers Designer Fashion Tape

I am most excited about the nail polish and Juicy perfume. I always have my nails polished and I love this spring’s bright colors. This month’s color was Age of Aquarius. It is a bright turquoise/minty color that is going to be really fun to wear this spring and fall.

I love carrying small sample perfumes in my purse. You never know when you are going to need a little spritzing to freshen up.

The skincare products are going to be interesting to try. I am not much of a face wash/moisturizer person. I do wash my face! Just not with expensive products.

Such a fun little box. I think I am really going to enjoy getting these each month. Thanks for the recommendation Kate!

Next the Socks!

Of course I got hot pink!

I discovered these socks from Skinny Runner’s blog when she posted a $20 off coupon. I always wanted a pair of compression socks for running and recovering. With a $20 off coupon I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try them out. These types of socks can run for $60.00 a pair or more. Mine were only $30.00 with free shipping.

I can’t wait to try them out. Thanks Skinny Runner!

Hope everyone had a sweaty and productive day!

Amy

Some of my most creative ideas come from when I am on a run, in the shower or in the car. But my idea of the “Fandelier” wasn’t generated in any of those places.

My “Fan-delier” project was sparked by an idea I got from a girlfriend. She and her husband were making a few new decorating additions to their new home. The beautiful, decorative ceiling fan was something I fell in love with and I knew I had to recreate it.

A Fandelier is any Ceiling Fan put together with a Chandelier or Ceiling Pendant.

You Need:

  • 1. A ceiling fan with removable light fixture globe. I bought a basic ceiling fan from our local Menards
  • 2. A light pendant. I bought this Coffee 8″ Capiz Hanging Pendant Lantern from World Market. Only $19.99

My husband installed the ceiling fan first and removed the glass globe. In place of the globe he screwed the pendant above the light bulbs. We painted a circle around the fan to give it a little more character.

I love this golden pendant so much! It gives our bedroom an extra romantic touch.

Some of you are probably thinking- “Yes, this looks cool but I bet the chandelier is really loud when the fan is turned on.” It is actually really quiet!” The small, plastic pendants sway a little in the breeze of the fan and make some noise. It is definitely not loud enough to keep you up at night. The noise reminds me of soft wind chimes moving through the breeze of a warm summer night.

This would also be really pretty in a kitchen or bathroom! Plus they are really fun and easy to put together. I wonder where I am going to put my next Fandelier?

A Little Bit of essie in Your Run

March 23rd, 2012 | Posted by Amy in style | Work Outs - (0 Comments)

Who said you can’t look pretty while running?Colors Left to Right: Jamaica Me Crazy, Peach Dalquiri, Pink Diamond

I love jazzing up my running shoes with bright colored laces. Loose those boring white strings.

I also love having bright bold nails and essie nail polish is one of my favorite brands. It’s bright, it’s bold and it’s strong. I can go a week with no chipping or peeling.
